Academician Guo Wins 2024 Wu Jieping Medical Award.

The award ceremony of Wu Jieping Medicine Award and Wu Jieping Medicine Innovation Award in 2024 was held in Capital Medical University. The award ceremony brought together many experts and scholars in the medical field to witness the moment of glory. Academician Guo Yinglu, honorary President of Peking University First Hospital, won the 2024 Wu Jieping Medicine Award.

As a high-level award in the field of medicine and health in China, Wu Jiping Medicine Award is awarded to individuals who promote the progress of medical science and technology in China and make outstanding contributions to the development of medical and health undertakings in China. The number of winners is selected once a year, and the number of winners is not more than 2.

Academician Guo Yinglu’s award is a recognition of his personal outstanding achievements and an affirmation of his outstanding contribution to the medical field. His achievements are the best inheritance of academician Wu Jieping’s spirit, and a vivid interpretation of his boundless love and persistent pursuit of medical career.

Winning the Wu Jieping Medicine Award means a lot to me because Wu Jieping is my mentor. He is kind, charitable, rigorous and knowledgeable, and selfless dedication to the medical cause, which is a beacon on the road of my life. He is both a teacher and a father, preaching and teaching, so that I gradually grew from a student to a doctor who contributed to the development of urology in our country, Shien will never forget.”

Guo Yinglu stressed that the majority of medical workers shoulder the mission of the country and the people’s trust, “angel in white” is not a special title in a special period, but in the work of every day, treat every patient should show the dedication of heart and soul, without asking for return.

Academician Guo Yinglu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor, chief physician, doctoral supervisor. China’s urology and male science discipline leader, famous medical scientist, educator.

His academic career is a legendary epic, with “firsts” and “innovations” recorded on every page. From his undergraduate graduation from the Department of Medicine of Beijing Medical College (now Peking University Health Science Center) in 1956 to his master’s degree in 1963, Academician Guo has been firm and powerful every step of the way.

His academic achievements, like a monument, stand in the palace of medicine. In the early 1960s, Academician Guo personally participated in China’s first kidney transplant operation conducted by his teachers, Academician Wu Jieping and Professor Shen Shaoji. Later, entrusted by Premier Zhou Enlai, he went to Canada to investigate kidney transplantation and wrote the first monograph “Kidney Transplantation” in China after returning home.

Academician Guo completed a kidney transplant operation in the 1970s, and the patient maintained a record of survival for more than 30 years. In the 1980s, Academician Guo successfully developed China’s first extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy prototype, and the world’s first prone position for the treatment of middle and lower ureteral stones.

Academician Guo reported transethral ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotripsis for the first time in China, and actively promoted the Department of Urology of Peking University Hospital to take the lead in developing urological laparoscopic technology in China. In the early 1990s, Academician Guo edited the world’s first comprehensive and systematic introduction of endourology technology monograph “Endourology”, which clarified the concept and category of endourology.

He edited more than 32 books, more than 500 papers, and more than 20 achievements. His innovative spirit and unremitting pursuit have promoted the innovation of urology technology and brought hope to countless patients.
