LAHORE — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday launched the “CM Insulin for Diabetes” program, the first-ever initiative to provide free insulin to children suffering from congenital type-I diabetes.
To mark the launch, Maryam Nawaz personally delivered ‘CM Insulin Cards’ to young patients at their homes, accompanied by Pakistan Post riders. She visited five-year-old Wasay Adnan’s home in Sabzazar Q-Block and met other children, including Zainab Waheed and Zain Shahzad in Jamil Town. Along with the cards, she distributed insulin kits, glucometers, blood sugar test strips, and needle boxes.
During her visits, Maryam Nawaz warmly interacted with the children and promised to send a toy car to Wasay. She also ordered immediate arrangements for an eye check-up and treatment for Zain Shahzad.
Her arrival was warmly welcomed by local residents. People gathered on rooftops and streets, girls showered her with flower petals, and elderly women prayed for her health. She also took selfies with young girls and engaged personally with the families.
Addressing the families, Maryam Nawaz said, “I understand the worries of parents whose children have diabetes. This free insulin program was launched to meet the urgent needs of underprivileged families. Under our Sehatmand Punjab vision, no child will be left behind because of unaffordable medical care.”
She emphasized the government’s focus on children’s health: “For the first time, we are providing glucometers and test strips along with insulin. The rising cases of diabetes in children are a serious concern, and we are committed to tackling it firmly.”
According to officials, the first phase will deliver insulin to 1,500 children at their doorsteps. The delivery will be handled securely by Pakistan Post riders, who will verify insulin cards using a dedicated mobile app. Each delivery will contain a three-month supply of insulin. Patients must attend quarterly check-ups at nearby district or sub-district hospitals.
Parents can register their children at NCD Clinics, Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, or via the Healthline app (1033). The program uses a Cold Chain System to keep insulin effective during delivery. By combining digital verification and doorstep service, this initiative is a major step forward for equitable healthcare focused on children in Punjab.
Separately, a PML-N delegation from the PP-52 constituency visited Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Monday. The delegation, led by Hina Arshad Warraich, offered fateha for the late Javed Arshad Warraich. Nawaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Warraich, while Maryam Nawaz praised Hina Javed Warraich’s services.
