Shandong Aids Qinghai to Help Diabetics Manage Blood Sugar.

As people’s lifestyles change and the population ages, the prevalence of diabetes continues to rise. At present, the number of people with diabetes in China has exceeded 100 million, which has become the third largest health killer after cardiovascular diseases and tumors, seriously endangering the health of patients, and bringing a heavy burden to patients’ families and society.

Recently, Zhang Xia, an endocrinologist in Shandong Province, and Han Huijie, director of the internal medicine of Qilian County People’s Hospital, led the team to carry out the new technology of diabetes “double C” treatment in Qilian County People’s Hospital for the first time – combining insulin infusion (CSII) with real-time dynamic blood glucose monitoring (CGM), so that the blood sugar of diabetes patients can be stable and meet the standard and reduce blood glucose fluctuations. Since the development of the new technology of double “C” therapy, it has helped 2 “sugar friends” achieve accurate blood sugar control and successfully discharged from hospital.

Diabetes mellitus is a disease caused by different reasons of insufficient insulin secretion and (or) insulin utilization disorders leading to abnormal metabolism of sugar, protein and fat, with chronic hyperglycemia as the prominent manifestation. The typical symptoms are polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia and unexplained weight loss. The atypical symptoms include blurred vision, vulvoid pruritus, skin pruritus, repeated infection, skin furuncle, wound prolonged and unhealed, pain and numbness of lower limbs.

Double “C” therapy is an advanced means of diabetes treatment. The first “C” is for continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), also known as an insulin pump. The second “C” is continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), also known as dynamic glucose monitoring. Two “C” combined treatment of diabetes referred to as double “C” therapy. In fact, while monitoring blood sugar, insulin injection can help medical staff more standardized management of patients with diabetes, to achieve the “1+1 > 2” sugar control effect. The combination of the two can achieve rapid, safe and effective hypoglycemia, quickly relieve glucose toxicity, promote the repair of islet function, delay the occurrence of complications, and greatly reduce the economic burden of diabetes patients.

As a cutting-edge technology in the treatment of diabetes, double-C therapy is especially suitable for patients with newly diagnosed diabetes, diabetic ketosis, and large blood glucose fluctuation. The development of this new technology provides more direct, comprehensive and complete blood glucose information for the majority of diabetic patients in the county, and provides a new means for optimizing diabetes management.

The clinical application of the new technology marks a higher level of diabetes treatment technology in Qilian County General Hospital. The internal medicine team will take this opportunity to continue to strengthen the construction of the medical team, promote medical technology innovation, improve the quality of medical services, and provide more high-quality, efficient and safe medical services for the people of Qilian County.
In addition, on the morning of November 14, on the occasion of the 18th “United Nations Diabetes Day”, in order to improve the general public’s awareness of diabetes and protect the health of the majority of sugar friends, Director Zhang Xia, a medical expert in Shandong Province, jointly with the internal medicine team of Qilian County People’s Hospital, carried out a free diabetes prevention and treatment campaign.

Zhang Xia explained the basic knowledge, causes, prevention and treatment of diabetes for patients and their families, and provided practical suggestions on sugar control in daily life. The free medical popularization attracted more than 100 residents to come for consultation and physical examination, so that the majority of Qilian people fully understand their health status, improve the awareness of diabetes and complications, promote the popularity of healthy lifestyle, produced good social benefits, and was praised by the masses.
