Roblox is introducing a new initiative aimed at enhancing employee wellness by covering the cost of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). Traditionally used to help diabetes patients manage their condition, CGMs have gained popularity among people eager to monitor how factors like food intake and exercise affect their health. Roblox CEO David Baszucki revealed in an interview with Fortune that he wears a CGM to track his sugar levels and recommends the device to others.
In an effort to promote this trend, Roblox is now offering a one-month CGM subscription to its employees, alongside personalized health coaching. Supriya Bahri, Roblox’s VP of total rewards and people operations, explained that the company has established a fund to allow employees to purchase the devices, which typically cost over $1,000 without insurance, and charge the expenses to a company-managed account.
The goal is for employees to better understand how their bodies respond to food, exercise, and stress, helping them build personalized wellness plans with the help of a health coach. This initiative is part of a broader health optimization program at Roblox, which also includes biometric screenings and DEXA scans, a type of bone density test, available at the office.
The company has also revamped its food offerings. Bahri and her team consulted nutritional experts and even the coach of the San Francisco 49ers to develop a “nutritional philosophy” that prioritizes whole foods and organic snacks, replacing highly processed items loaded with sugar.
Roblox refers to these wellness benefits as “proactive,” emphasizing prevention over treatment. While many companies address employee health only after chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes arise, Roblox is focused on helping employees maintain peak performance and prevent such issues. This forward-thinking approach may lead to reduced healthcare costs in the future, although Bahri noted that the primary goal is to support holistic health. While it could take time for cost savings to materialize, the company remains committed to fostering long-term well-being.
