2. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)

The OGTT assesses how well the body processes glucose. It is often used to diagnose diabetes and gestational diabetes.

Procedure: The patient fasts overnight and then consumes a glucose solution containing 75 grams of glucose. Blood samples are taken at intervals, typically 1 and 2 hours after ingestion.

Normal Range: A 2-hour blood glucose level of less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) is considered normal. Levels between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 to 11.0 mmol/L) indicate prediabetes, while levels of 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher suggest diabetes.

3. Hemoglobin A1c Test

The Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test measures the average blood glucose levels over the past 2 to 3 months. It is commonly used to monitor long-term glucose control in diabetes management.

Procedure: A blood sample is taken from a vein and analyzed for the percentage of hemoglobin bound to glucose.

Normal Range: An HbA1c level of less than 5.7% is considered normal. Levels between 5.7% and 6.4% indicate prediabetes, while levels of 6.5% or higher suggest diabetes.

4. Random Blood Glucose Test

5. Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)

Procedure: A small sensor is inserted under the skin, typically in the abdomen or arm, to measure glucose levels in the interstitial fluid. The sensor transmits data to a monitor or smartphone app.
