Nationwide Movement Launched to Combat Obesity and Diabetes

What’s the 4 most common types of diabetes

A strategic partnership between Engage Life, a corporate wellness solution provider, and Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has sparked a nationwide wellness initiative, aptly named Growing Well Together (GWT). This ambitious movement aims to tackle the escalating issues of obesity and diabetes in Malaysia by promoting healthier lifestyles and providing comprehensive healthcare solutions.

The partnership, solidified through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), was marked by a launch event featuring prominent figures such as Engage Life’s CEO and founder Paresh Subramaniyam, and SJMC’s Chief Executive Officer Bryan Lin. Also in attendance were SJMC Chief Operating Officer Rachel Woo and Engage Life Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Voo.

Corporate Influence Driving Community Wellness

The GWT movement seeks to leverage the influence of large organizations by positioning them as “wellness sponsors” within their communities. This approach not only fosters healthier living among individuals but also promotes a societal shift towards wellness on a larger scale. Engage Life brings its expertise in corporate wellness, while SJMC contributes its robust capabilities as a tertiary hospital to this collaborative effort.

Central to the GWT initiative is a 30-day in-app program designed to guide participants on their wellness journey. Accessible through the Engage Life app, the program focuses on critical areas such as weight management, nutrition, and physical activity, all aimed at fostering lasting behavioral changes. The app also includes tracking and assessment features, as well as a supportive community, to help participants stay on course.

Incentives and Rewards for Participants

To motivate and reward participants, the program offers various incentives, including savings from partners like Beacon Mart, SJMC, JBL, Brooks, and more. Those who complete the program will receive a certificate of participation recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records, along with the opportunity to win up to RM10,000 in rewards and prizes. Additionally, participants may enjoy a 3-day/2-night getaway to destinations such as Cherating Club Med, Desaru Coast, or Beacon Resort.

Commitment to a Healthier Malaysia

Paresh Subramaniyam, CEO of Engage Life, expressed his deep commitment to the cause: “Having witnessed firsthand the impact of health struggles on individuals’ lives, we are deeply committed to creating a healthier Malaysia. Our partnership with Subang Jaya Medical Centre to launch the Growing Well Together movement is a major milestone in our mission. By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to empower individuals and organizations to prioritize well-being and drive lasting positive change.”

SJMC’s CEO Bryan Lin echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the value of the partnership to both the hospital and its patients. “Beyond disease management, healthcare is about helping our patients get back to their lives. This collaboration aligns with our commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of our community, where healthy habits and screenings are essential. We look forward to creating a comprehensive approach to address the pressing health challenges facing Malaysia and together build a healthier nation for generations to come.”

Kickstarting the Movement

To kickstart the GWT program, SJMC has pledged 50 passes as part of its efforts to promote positive health and well-being within its organization. As one of Engage Life’s wellness sponsors, SJMC is taking a more holistic approach to healthcare, empowering its employees to take charge of their health.

The GWT movement will be further promoted at the upcoming “Wellness @ the Parc” roadshow on September 7 at PARC, Taman Subang Ria, offering more opportunities for the community to engage with the initiative and take steps towards a healthier future.
