Metformin is primarily used to improve glycemic control in adults and children with Type 2 diabetes. It is typically prescribed as a monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications, such as sulfonylureas, DPP-4 inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors, and insulin. Prediabetes is a condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels that are not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes.
