The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is launching its free diabetes self-management, education, and support classes starting in mid-January 2025. Available in both English and Spanish, these classes will be offered both in-person and online to cater to a wide audience.
Organized by the Health District’s Office of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the classes aim to help participants learn to manage their blood sugar, stay physically active, and adopt healthier eating habits. The classes are offered year-round, providing personalized services to individuals managing diabetes.
Dr. Fermin Leguen, the District Health Officer, highlighted that the classes are designed to offer tailored support, assisting participants in managing their diabetes effectively.
Diabetes is the eighth leading cause of death in the United States and a major contributor to health issues like kidney failure, lower limb amputations, and blindness. In 2023, approximately 12.8% of adults in Clark County, which equals around 238,102 people, were living with diabetes. Statewide, around 11.3% of Nevada’s adult population, or 283,700 individuals, have been diagnosed with the condition.
These upcoming classes provide essential tools to help people living with diabetes take control of their health and improve their quality of life.
